An interesting study of crime looking at six cities – Philadelphia, San Diego, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Austin and Toronto, was carried out by the Police Executive Research Forum. One of the central messages from the sample study is that gun violence continues to plague poor urban neighborhoods. The question is how to fix the problem.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is hinting that Attorney General Eric Holder is stonewalling them. They are threatening to hold him in contempt.

To me, it would be different if we didn’t know the effects of austerity. We’ve seen the effects both here and abroad. Most the economies in Europe contracted as Europe drastically cut government spending. Here at home, as state and local governments have cut spending, we’re seeing a decrease in the GDP as well as an increase in unemployment. Over 600,000 government workers were laid off within the last 12-18 months. Yet, some governments persist in following the cut and cut more path like Spain.
I’m not sure that I understand all of the ins and outs of this new Cyber Intelligence Protection and Sharing Act. It seems to be written kind of loosely. The whole thing seems to be as clear as mud. I’m not sure why the House passed this bill.
